MUSI295a - Assignment 1: Musique concrete & Soundscapes »

Instrumental soundscape No Comment

In my desire to not be one of the few here left out when instrument playing is mentioned (and due in no small part to my sudden desire to take MUSI295a), I just bought an electronic keyboard to plug into my computer. After hours of research, I settled on the E-MU Xboard 49, described here http://www.keyboardmag.com/article/e-mu-xboard/sep-05/13060 and pictured at the end of this post.

It’s a pretty nice feeling keyboard (and definitely knows how to do more things than I do, so I can’t comment or test most of its features), and the con of “cheap feeling knobs” isn’t too much of a con - the knobs may wobble a bit, but they still feel nice, and not like they’re going to fall off; they’re rubbery and feel pretty good other than the small wobble. There are comments on the web that they used most of the build price on the actual keys, and this is a comment that I pretty much agree with - they feel great.

I’ve already started to learn how to play it (it’s a good thing that I already know how to read music) and up to now learned 2 songs (“Joy to the world” and “Ode to joy” - I’m having a small problem with one note of this, but practice makes perfect :D)
