MUSI295a - Assignment 4 - Le coeur est mort, vive le coeur! No Comments

Umm… this is supposed to be somewhat of a trip-hop piece - mostly recycled from Lamb, Massive Attack, Coldplay and random heartbeat samples off the internet.

MUSI295a - Assignment 3 - Happy Go Lucky (House) No Comments

Okay, here’s assignment 3. It tries to be house (though I think something’s missing for it to be exactly house, but still…)

Final project proposal No Comments

For my final project, I’d like to try out something along the lines of Spiritual House, with sounds close to the ones used by Enigma, with elements of Acid House, Tribal House, or Techno (there are certain remixes of Enigma that sound similar to what I’d like to acheive). The main problem I can foresee right now is acquiring the main vocals (including the base for a Chorus effect for the Gregorian-like portion). The final effect should be a combination between an ordered and rigid Christian religious experience and a deeper, more primal African tribal sound, to add chaos and sensation to the track (maybe also helped by the main voice, which is also a source of carnal sensation in Enigma’s works). We’ll see what I end up with…

MUSI295a - Assignment 2 No Comments

Okay - It’s 5:29am and I just finished my 2nd assignment for Intro to Electronic Music… It doesn’t sound too bad, but then again, it’s not too good, either. Oh, well… Here, listen for yourself:

DISCLAIMER: No cows were hurt during the making of this assignment.

It’s that time of the week: the assignments are due and I’m done with my composition. This week’s feature: cow sounds! :D. To those back home, you all know why they’re featured. To those who don’t, expect a follow-up “Life” blog.

Instrumental soundscape No Comments

In my desire to not be one of the few here left out when instrument playing is mentioned (and due in no small part to my sudden desire to take MUSI295a), I just bought an electronic keyboard to plug into my computer. After hours of research, I settled on the E-MU Xboard 49, described here http://www.keyboardmag.com/article/e-mu-xboard/sep-05/13060 and pictured at the end of this post.

Raison d’être No Comments

Okay - so we have to keep a blog for the Intro to Electronic Music class. Apparently my brain translated that into “Start a general purpose blog, Ionut! It’s high time you had one!”.

Slave to my own brain that I am, I said “why not?” and started on this. Actually, I got started on a much bigger back-end & design, but it just won’t be ready in useful time for the MUSI295a class (from now on, the Intro to Electronic Music class will be called by any shortening I feel like using at the time), and has already made me extremely late in starting the actual manageable blog.
